Parent Support & Involvement
At C.E.A. our teachers work with home school parents to provide children with a solid academic foundation within a wholesome learning environment. The teacher will provide classroom instruction, make assignments, define appropriate evaluation tools, and keep permanent records. However, parents and their children must understand that parents remain “teachers,” too. Parents provide needed support at home by quizzing their child prior to tests, helping with new concepts, making sure work is done on time, grading non-subjective work as directed, etc. And if parents believe their student needs additional assignments beyond the teacher’s requirements, they are welcome to assign them.
C.E.A. is not a traditional school. For the program to work as designed, parents must remain actively involved and be willing and able to give considerable time and effort to making the program work for their child or teen. As is true for all home school parents, the enthusiastic support, involvement, and guidance of C.E.A. parents will be critical to their student’s success.
Parents also provide support to the program as a whole by serving in various volunteer positions. Each C.E.A. family is required to sign up for one volunteer position, per child enrolled. Each of these positions will take an average of 4 – 6 hours of time per month. Sign-up sheets for volunteer positions are circulated prior to each school term. Parents are also expected to sign up for summer work sessions prior to the beginning of classes. By volunteering time, energy, and talents, parents help C.E.A. operate smoothly and efficiently.
